Review of the Game of Thrones Season 5 Trailer:

AHHHH!!! THE SEASON 5 TRAILER IS UPON US!! AND IT LOOKS AMAZING!!


Reminder: I have never read the books so all of this commentary is from the perspective of someone who has no idea what's happening next (or who many of these new faces are):




Things we learned from the trailer:

-Jaime is sad (probably because his brother just killed his dad)

-Some badass chick in the desert knows how to use a whip (one of Oberyn's daughters?)

-Tyrion is alive, but is a broken man :(

-Varys is plotting to get Daenerys on the throne and it looks like he wants Tyrion to help him?

-Littlefinger (creepily) tells Sansa to avenge her family

-Cersei is P-I-S-S-E-D

But as usual, her hair/outfit/face is flawless.

-Someone with blond hair cut their finger

-Margaery and Tommen are getting married

-Danaerys is going to break some motherf**king wheels!

-Her dragons are. freaking. terrifying.

-Varys and Tyrion have matching outfits, they're B.F.F.'s now:

(I am totally ok with this.)

-Ser Jorah is fighting someone in a ring

-Theon is still alive (ugh.)

-Melisandre is showing her boobs to someone (again)

-People in gold masks are attacking people in alleyways

-Jaime is being led into a giant, fancy looking building (Dorne??)

-Jon Snow is (still) really pretty:

Yes. Yes he is.

-Arya has arrived at a mysterious looking palace with a black and white door (Braavos??)

-Mance Rayder and his crew are going for a swim

-Missandei and Grey Worm are about to get. it. on.

-Daenerys and her group get ambushed by people in gold masks

-There's a funeral for someone from the 'North Wall crew'

-A giant gold statue gets knocked down





Questions for this season:
How will Tyrion adjust to his new unglamorous life away from King's Landing? Is that weird medical device from last season going to make The Mountain into some kind of super human zombie? How will the rest of the kingdoms react to Tywin's death? Can House Lannister survive such a big defeat? What manipulative move do Margarey/Lady Olenna have up their sleeves? How long will it take before Cersei goes full craycray? Does Sansa's new hair color mean she finally grew a backbone? Will Jon Snow ever touch another woman again? What swift and terrible revenge will Prince Oberyn's daughters bring down on Cersei/Kings Landing/The Mountain? Can Daenerys just be Queen of the Universe already? (Will she be getting more action from her booty call Daario?) Will Arya ever be reunited with her friend of many faces, Jaqen H'ghar? Who is Lady Olenna saying "they'll never even find what's left of you" to? WILL BRIENNE AND JAIME EVER BE REUNITED?



And the most important question: WHERE THE HELL IS GENDRY?!?!?!? (seriously though.)
Equally as important: WHERE THE HELL IS BRIENNE?!?!?!? (it sounded like her voice saying "nothing's more hateful than failing to protect the one you love" in the beginning of the trailer)
Important but not as important: When will we see Ser Pounce again?!?!

The real King of Westeros.

Season 5 premieres on Sunday April 12th on HBO.

Netflix confirms cast members from the upcoming 'Wet Hot American Summer' series:

Everyone's favorite face licking, fridge humping, absurdly weird group of summer campers is back! (this summer) Netflix just released the first teaser trailer for the cult classic's limited series. So far there are no plot reveals or actual clips, just a long list of cast members that are definitely coming back:

In case you didn't catch that: Elizabeth Banks, Michael Ian Black, Bradley Cooper, Judah Friedlander, Janeane Garofalo, Joe Lo Truglio, Ken Marino, Christopher Meloni (!!!), Marguerite Moreau, Zak Orth, Amy Poehler (!!!), David Hyde Pierce, Paul Rudd (!!!), Molly Shannon and Michael Showalter are all going to be there!

Looking forward to: Mad Max Fury Road trailer

Synopsis: The fate of a lawless, post apocalyptic Australia lies in the hands of two rebels riding across the desert.

Let's take a second to marvel at how gorgeous this trailer is:

Every.

Single.

Frame.

Is.

Absolutely.

Stunning.

Why it looks worth seeing: To be perfectly honest, if you put Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron together in a film, I will watch it. Picking up a franchise 30 years later is no easy feat but judging by the trailer, Fury Road appears to have done a good job of updating the look without loosing the original trilogy's vibe. The film has had its fair share of well publicized set backs and delays, but hopefully now any doubts fans had about it are gone. I look forward to seeing a more lengthy trailer in the coming months.

Looking Forward to: Godzilla trailer

Starring: Bryan Cranston, Elizabeth Olsen, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe



With two heavy weights (Cranston and Watanabe), two underrated rising stars (Olsen and Taylor-Johnson), stellar graphics and a dark undertone, this remake of the classic reptilian horror story looks very promising!

WINTER IS COMING (in April).



Disclaimer: I have never read any of the Game Of Thrones books.




Things we learned from this trailer:

-Jon Snow has healed from his Ygritte wounds (at least the physical ones).
-Tyrion Lannister is in trouble for something and it looks pretty serious.
-Cersei is fighting with her dad again (possibly about Jaime?).
-Ygritte is still pissed and flinging arrows.
-Arya is back to her badass, sword-wielding ways.
-Joffrey still draws breath.
-As does Theon (sans manhood).
-Jaime got a haircut and a heavy looking prosthetic hand.

Rugged, Season 3 hair.

Even Jaime isn't feeling his new haircut.

So it looks like season 4 will be chock full of bloodshed, tears and power grabbing. Will Arya ever get her vengeance? Why is Tyrion in chains? Will Jaime be a changed man after everything he went through? Will we ever see him and Brienne interact again? What new, sinister plot is Littlefinger hatching? How many of Bran's crow dreams will we have to endure this season? Will Jon Snow ever love again? Will crossbows be a part of Margaery and Joffrey's wedding night? Will Sansa's life ever get better? How much longer will we be forced to listen to the "Red Priestess" talk in riddles? Will I ever bring myself to care about Theon and all his problems? And most importantly: WHERE IS GENDRY?

Also, lets talk about this shot for a second:

That large, dark spot is the shadow of a dragon flying overhead. Are those Daenerys' dragons? How big are they now? Is this a dream sequence? 

Notable new additions to the cast:
-Prince Oberyn Martell ("the Red Viper") will be played by Chilean actor Pedro Pascal
-Tycho Nestoris, a representative of the Iron Bank of Braavos, will be played by Sherlock star & co-creator Mark Gatiss 

Notable re-castings:

-the object of Daenerys' affection, Daario Naharis, will be replaced by actor Michiel Huisman

-King Joffrey's youngest brother, Tommen Baratheon, will be replaced by actor Dean-Charles Chapman

The concept of artificial intelligence is intriguing enough, but throw in what looks like yet another phenomenal performance by Joaquin Phoenix and you have my attention. It will be interesting to see how Scarlett Johansson performs since she won't be visible on screen. ( I can't think of anyone with a more pleasant voice for something like this though) I've always had soft spot for Spike Jonze films. They always have a kind of haunting nostalgic quality to them that stays with you long after the credits roll. Her looks like it will be sure to stir up some interesting conversations.

Coming Soon: The Walking Dead Season 4 Trailer

Is it October yet?!?

Ladies and gentlemen, that is how you make a trailer.

Carol with knives (!). Organized supermarket raids. Mystery characters. Crying children. Tyrese in a zombie mob. Michonne on a horse. Big baby Judy. Daryl Dixon (!!). If this trailer is any indication of what season four will be like, there are going to be a lot of racing hearts this fall.

Predictions: Carol and Daryl look like they'll be getting even closer. Hershel's ominous "we just lost twelve of our own" does not bode well for the group. Judging by that clip of a very horrified Tyrese, his sister Sasha will be one of the casualties. I also assume that the person that "attacked the prison" will have something to do with a certain disgraced one eyed leader (actor David Morrissey signed on as a season four regular, he's going to have to pop up sometime.) And in typical Walking Dead fashion, I'm fairly certain that at least one member of the core team will be dying this season as well. My bets are on Hershel, Maggie or Glenn.


Either way, this season looks like its going to be the strongest one yet. Hopefully with new show runner Scott Gimple at the reins, the writers and directors will finally let this show live up to its potential. October 13th can't come soon enough!

Looking forward to: Blackfish--trailer

This documentary focuses on the infamous Killer Whale Tilikum who is responsible for 3 separate deaths. It addresses the important issue of whether we should keep animals as intelligent and powerful as Tilikum in captivity. 

Looking forward to: August Osage County--trailer

After looking at the cast, do you honestly need more of a reason to want to see this film? Dysfunctional family dramas make for some really colorful, complex characters and this cast certainly looks like it will turn out some stellar performances. If Meryl's "Is anyone 'sposed to smoke?"is an indication of what's to come, there might be another Oscar nomination in the near future.

Looking forward to: Thor 2: The Dark World--Trailer

As excited as I am to see Thor (played magnificently by Chris Hemsworth) and the gang kicking some otherworldly butt, the character I'm most excited about seeing is Thor's devious brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston). This will be the third time we've seen Loki, first in 2011's Thor and most recently in last summer's blockbuster hit, The Avengers. Loki is the tortured, scheming little sympathetic villain you love to hate (and hate to love). And Hiddleston brings an intensity, charm and depth to Loki that not many actors could do. Let's hope he actually gets some decent screen time in this film.


I'm also looking forward to seeing Darcy (Kat Dennings) and Professor Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) again. They were one of the best parts of the first Thor film for me. 

Looking forward to: The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Release Date: November 22, 2013


With the addition of Philip Seymour Hoffman to the already stellar looking cast, Catching Fire looks to be even better than its predecessor, The Hunger Games. The stakes are higher, the tension stronger and the villains even more unpredictable. Catching Fire was my favorite book in the series so I'm excited to see what they do with this one. 

Looking forward to: The Hangover III

The wolfpack is back and ready to do what they do best; raise hell! The first Hangover film was a hilarious, vulgar, outrageous joyride; the second one, not so much. I know that the joke was supposed to be that the two films were basically the same thing but for me it just didn't work. It felt forced, lame and anti climactic, the total opposite of the first film. But I have high hopes for The Hangover III. It will be nice to see the boys in Vegas again, and it looks like they'll be making a few new friends (Melissa McCarthy! John Goodman!). Either way, I'm sure The Hangover III will be a ridiculous, raunchy start to the summer.


Bonus: Even if the film isn't amazing, at least we're guaranteed to get plenty of quotable Galifianakis moments.

Looking forward to: Star Trek Into Darkness

Few trailers have me 'fangirling' more than this one. Not only is Into Darkness the highly anticipated sequel to one of 2009's best films (Star Trek), but its one of star Benedict Cumberbatch's biggest American film roles to date. Anyone familiar with the British actor's work on BBC's hit show Sherlock (or any of his previous roles) knows just how immensely talented Cumberbatch is. Whoever his character is, he is sure to be an impressive and magnetic villain.

Looking forward to: Skyfall

Daniel Craig returns as Bond in the third installment of the franchise's most recent incarnation. 2006's Casino Royale was an absolute masterpiece of a film. 2008's followup, Quantum of Solace lacked its predecessor's spark and weight. Judging by Skyfall's success overseas and the reviews that have already come in, I'm fairly confident that this film is going to be amazing.
